Cheap foam earplugs might help in these types of noisy sleep situations. Might not be good in case something or someone approaches you in the middle of the night but it’d work.

An hour down the road from me the big highway goes over a large river, that bridge is a road deck on a single steel box girder that is half as wide as the road and just as deep. a few years ago they tore down the abandoned rail bridge next to it and one of the workers noticed a stove pipe, turns out a local guy had been living in there for years.

I saw a cool little nest under a bridge made with wood as a floor up in the rafters of the bridge. Then you're totally up off the ground, but also right against the road overhead. But, no animals and noone can see you unless they're right below ya. I always liked that idea, but itd have to be a very isolated bridge to get any rest.

There was a great bridge in the farm town I grew up in. There were 2 tunnels side by side, about 8 foot high and 8 foot wide and the width of a 2 lane main road with sidewalks. It was for when the dam overflowed, which I only saw once in 30 years. Never slept there but did spend a good bit of time under there. Traffic was minimal, especially at night.
